Hollywood sci-fi has long fostered stories of robots becoming so human that we fall in love with them, and now it seems they’re right. Artificial intelligence and robots can now both imitate and even surpass humans in many of the qualities we typically identify as particularly lovable in people.
Today, millions of people around the world turn to AI, avatars, and robots as if they were professionals, friends, or even romantic partners. Since the Greek tragedy of the sculptor Pygmalion, who created his dream partner, humans have been trying to replicate the Creator’s work. But is it a good idea? Is there something to be learned from the Christian concept of humans being made in the image of God?
